Project Indi

proyectoindiProject Indi is an association that was formed in Rincon de la Victoria in 2009 to try and break the hegemony of current operating systems, such as Windows. The idea is to trade ideas and software freely, allowing modification, distribution and sharing, so that each can adapt products specifically to their needs.

José Rodriguez, the president, believes the association is atypical because it consists of partners willing to share their knowledge in forums and workshops such as TICWEEK. It is a forum for exchange. ‘If you modify something, or translate it to another language, discover a new feature, you share it with the community’.

‘There are many people who are tired of the restrictions imposed by conventionally sold products, which do not give you the freedom to adapt the software to your needs. FOSS has continuous updates, and no virus’, explains Rodriguez. He adds that the management of the systems is both simple and intuitive.

The philosophy of the association is ‘very hippie’, because not only do we share knowledge, but also create opportunities in the business world, exchanging ideas and possibilities presented by the new technologies. The only drawback is that there are specific programs such as AutoCAD and Flash which cannot be used with the free software.

Are you going to throw out a computer?
Project indi has already organized different workshops to distribute the idea among the maximum number of users, but they are handicapped by the lack of space-enabled computers. They recently received 3 computers from the University of Granada, which were going to be disposed of.

They would like to ask anyone thinking of replace in their PC to think about offering the old one to the Association.
