The Mayor of Rincón de la Victoria, Francisco Salado, and the director of Grupo Magtel, Leopoldo Alvarez-Baranaga, yesterday signed an agreement which will make the municipality the first town in Málaga to deploy a fibre-optic network for telecommunications.
Salado stressed that the signing of the agreements will also mean an income for the municipal coffers. For the use of public land and roads the Grupo Magtel will pay a fee of 1.5% of the gross revenue from the annual turnover in the municipality. They will also make a one of payment of one euro per metre of fibre optic cabling, equating to 12,000€ for 12km.
The agreement will deploy the 12km of the latest generation infrastructure using existing trucking throughout the municipality. The project is being funded by the Ministry of Industry, tourism and Commerce through the Adana Plan.
It is expected that the project of 1.8million Euros will be completed before the summer. The mayor stated that the network would be very important for the development of communications and give an impetus for growth in the municipality.
The councillor for new technologies, Carmen Millán argues that the fibre optic technology will bring a significant improvement in the speed of data transmission and improvements in services.
It is also being pointed out that as the company intends to use existing infrastructure, the disruption should be kept to a minimum.
