‘Fiesta del Boquerón Victoriano’ will give out 700 kilos of free boquerones as well as commence the second ‘Ruta de la Tapa Gourmet del Boquerón’

boqueronesFrom Friday 26th until Sunday 28th September, Rincón de la Victoria will hold the ‘Fiesta del Boquerón Victoriano’. There will be three days of acts in which 500 kilos of fried boquerones and 200 kilos of boquerones in vinegar will be given out. The town council expects to attract around 15,000 visitors for this gastronomic event.

Yesterday, the mayor of Rincón de la Victoria, Francisco Salado, the representative for ‘AtenciónEspecializada’, Emiliani Jiménez, the councillor of tourism,Marta Marín, and the business owner José Cobos, presented the Fiesta del Boquerón Victoriano, a date declared by the councilfor touristic uniqueness. This year it continues with a programme of activities centred on the promotion of the local gastronomic patrimony and with performances for all.

This year, it will begin on Friday 26th at 12pm, with José Cobos,owner of ‘El Pimpi’, opening the event. The event will take place in the ‘Salón de Plenos’ in Rincón de la Victoria’s town council. Afterwards, the town council’s courtyard will present culinary creations that will participate in the second ‘Ruta de la Tapa Gourmet del Boquerón’, continuing with the free consumption of boquerones along the ‘paseo’ Virgendel Carmen.

Rincon’s councillor has explained that September is an important month for the municipality, “although the summer is coming to an end, the town council is working hard to continue attracting tourists with events as important as the ‘Fiesta del Boquerón Victoriano’. It’s a great investment that supports itself each year thanks to the quality of the activities that are made to an incomparable measure, as well as with public assistance.”

The councillor of tourism has emphasised the ‘Ruta de la Tapa Gourmet’ that “will give the restaurants within our locality centre stage for more than a month”. As well as this, she has reminded us that the free consumption of boquerones will be carried out during the three day festival “so that people have the opportunity to taste these Rincon delicacies each day.”

As well as this, visitors can enjoy the ‘Fiesta del Pescaíto Frito’ (Fried fish festival) during the three days, at reasonable prices along the ‘PaseoMarítimoVirgen del Carmen’. This will also be the place to find different musical performances such as ‘Munik’, ‘Tarifa Plana’ and’Alice & TheWonderband’ as well aschildrens’ icons such as ‘Las Aventuras de Peneque el Valiente’ among other activities.

The representative for ‘AtenciónEspecializada’ has encouraged people from Malaga to attend this festival, representative of one of the best plates known in Malaga’s gastronomy. PepeCobos has said that “to speak of the boquerón is like speaking of ourselves as people of Malaga”.

The second competition for the Boquerón ‘Tapa Gourmet’
The second ‘Ruta de la Tapa Gourmet del Boquerón’ will begin on the 26th of September and will finish on the 31st October. The participating establishments will offer a tapas, based on the boquerón, while also reflecting their culinary uses. It will be a well-prepared and innovative plate, excluding ‘boqueronesfritos’ and boquerones in vinegar. The gourmet tapas, with a drink, will cost 2.50 euros and customers will get a ‘tapaporte’ that will be sealed in the establishment and entered into the prize draw.
There will be two prizes, one will be given according to the votes collected by the ‘tapaporte’, and the other will be given by a specialised judging panel, formed of world professionals in gastronomy and the restaurant industry. The prize given by the judging panel will be 500 euros and from the public, 300 euros.
